What’s always included in your road trip

Whether you’re heading off for 7 or 10 days, in a 4x4 or a campervan, you can count on the following:

Fully equipped vehicle

Explore Iceland in your own 4×4 with a rooftop tent or in a comfortable campervan, which you’ll pick up on the first day of your road trip at our base camp in Hafnarfjörður, near Reykjavík.

Route book with detailed itinerary

When you set off, you’ll receive a printed roadbook with the full day-by-day itinerary, plus practical information and tips from our experts. You don’t have to follow it to the letter, but it’s a handy guide to have along the way.

Nights in unique campsites

Camping spots are reserved in advance for you. Upon your arrival, you just need to show up and choose your spot. Each campsite has restrooms and shelters.

Camping and cooking gear

Everything you need for camping will be provided from day one of your road trip: pillows, sleeping bags, camping table, chairs, pot and pan, gas stove with canisters, plates, and cups.

Access to the mobile app

A few weeks before departure, you’ll get access to our mobile app. It includes a detailed day-by-day itinerary, an interactive map with the route and all the points of interest, your flight details, a road-trip playlist, and a chat where you can connect with our local team and the other travelers.

7-day-a-week support from a French-speaking team

Our French-speaking local team will give you a warm welcome in Reykjavík. They’re available 7 days a week via the app’s messaging service or by phone to help if anything goes wrong or answer your questions.

“An unforgettable experience that would only have been possible thanks to the support and expertise of Iceland Nomads.”

FAQ

Find all the answers on our FAQ page, or contact us if you have any other questions.

Should I book the 4×4 or the campervan?

Whichever option you choose, one thing is certain: an unforgettable adventure awaits. To help you make your decision, we’ve listed the pros and cons of each option in this article.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that campervans are not allowed on F-roads in Iceland, you’ll need a 4×4 to drive on these roads. So, while travelling by campervan means taking a slightly different route, you’ll enjoy a little extra comfort along the way.

Does preregistration commit me to anything?

No. Preregistering is not the same as booking, it’s just making sure you’re informed first as soon as the new offer goes live, and to take advantage of all the perks: early access and guaranteed best price.

What’s the difference with a regular vehicle rental?

With us, the vehicle is just part of the journey. You’ll leave with an itinerary designed by local experts, a complete travel journal, access to an exclusive mobile app, pre-booked camping spots, and French-speaking support before and during your entire stay. We take care of everything for you!

Who is this trip suitable for?

Iceland Nomads is perfect for anyone who loves nature and adventure. Whether you’re an experienced traveller or are just venturing outside your comfort zone for the first time, if you’re open to new experiences, you’ve come to the right place!

What are the campsites like?

All campsites are booked in advance, so you don’t have to worry about finding a place to stay. They all have basic facilities, including toilets, hot showers and sheltered areas. Some campsites also have a shared kitchen where you can cook your own meals and sit down to eat.

Is it easy to drive in Iceland?

Yes, the main roads are well maintained and traffic flows smoothly. You just need to adjust your driving to the wind, the sheep (often on the road!), and the weather. Note: a road tax per kilometer has been in effect since January 2026.
