Why should you choose Iceland Nomads?

FAQ

Here are some frequently asked questions. If you have any others, contact us.

With how many people can you take this road trip?

Iceland Nomads is specially designed for groups of 2 or 3 people.

  • If you are 2, you can either choose the 4×4 with a rooftop tent or the camper van.
  • If you are 3, you can opt for the 4×4. We provide an extra ground tent and the necessary camping gear (mattress, sleeping bag, and pillow), as the rooftop tent is only large enough for two people.
  • Want to go with more than 3 people? That’s possible, but you’ll need to form several small groups. Each group must register separately and will be assigned its own vehicle.

Is it expensive to travel in Iceland?

Iceland is known for being an expensive destination, but the roof tent trip helps cut costs while providing a unique experience. The Iceland Nomads road trips include the gear and reservations to simplify your budget.

Is it easy to drive in Iceland?
Yes, the main roads are well maintained and traffic flows smoothly. You just need to adjust your driving to the wind, the sheep (often on the road!), and the weather. Note: a road tax per kilometer will be implemented starting from January 2026.
We would like to come with our children, is that possible?

Yes, absolutely. You can travel with a child, as long as your group does not exceed 3 people per vehicle. That's the maximum we recommend to keep the trip comfortable, especially with all the camping gear provided. If you're traveling with 3 people and your child is over 8 years old, we'll provide an extra ground tent. If they're younger, they can sleep with you in the roof tent or in the converted van.If you're traveling with a young child, you're also entitled to an additional discount. Just send us an email to request it.If you want to travel with 2 children or more, unfortunately, you'll need to book 2 vehicles. With all the camping gear included, traveling with more than 3 people in the same vehicle isn't comfortable.

Can I do this road trip alone?

Unfortunately, our road trip is not designed for solo travelers, mainly because of the long distances to cover. That's why we recommend traveling with at least 2 people.Additionally, prices are always calculated based on 2 people. It is possible to do the road trip alone, but in that case, you will need to pay double the base price.

What’s in the roadbook?

The travel booklet contains all the necessary information for a successful visit to Iceland. The complete itinerary is mapped out. You'll visit the most famous spots in Iceland, but we'll also guide you to hidden gems that aren't yet on most tourist maps. We provide suggested stops, but you're free to follow them or add your own stops. It also includes a list of unique addresses where you can grab a drink or a meal in the evening.

Can I customize the trip to my liking?

We offer a road trip of 7 or 10 days, fully mapped out, so it's not possible to adjust the duration and itinerary of the trip. You are of course free to extend your trip on your own initiative by staying, for example, a few extra days in Iceland afterwards.

How old do I need to be to drive in Iceland?

For this trip, you must be at least 21 years old and have held a driver's license for 2 years.

What are the extra costs?
  • Icelandic tourist tax: €17.50 per person.
  • Road tax: €14 per day.
  • Fuel: approximately €400 for the entire trip.
  • Food and drinks: more info above.
  • Parking: in cities or tourist sites.
Is there on-site support?

Upon your arrival in Iceland, you will be warmly welcomed by our rangers on-site. They will greet you and give you a brief explanation before you start your 7-day road trip.During your journey, you'll find all the useful information in our app. Additionally, just before your departure, you will have access to a WhatsApp group with all the participants leaving on the same date. In this group, you can communicate with each other, and someone from the team will also be available in case of an emergency.
